Corelli

Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8

"A warm, pastoral Baroque concerto originally composed to be played on Christmas Eve."

Commissioned by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and published posthumously in 1714, this concerto bears the inscription "Made for the night of Christmas." Its famous final movement, a Pastorale, mimics the sounds of the shepherds' bagpipes in Bethlehem.
